A former employee has filed a discrimination lawsuit against a Monroe car dealership.

Pamela Lighten filed her lawsuit in federal court January 9 against Jim Taylor Chevrolet.

According to the complaint, Lighten, who is Black, says she was subjected to racial slurs and derogatory remarks by her white male colleagues during her tenure at the company. She claims her complaints about this behavior were ignored by management, leading to an escalation of harassment.

She also says a prank played on her by coworkers in August 2021 resulted in an injury and subsequent disability. And she says her subsequent request for reasonable accommodation for her injury was denied. Lighten was under medical care until October 31, 2022, when she was terminated from her employment without any attempt at reasonable accommodation.

Lighten is suing for violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as the Louisiana Employment Discrimination Law. She alleges discrimination based on race and disability and retaliation.
