Southern University is committed to fostering an environment that promotes healthy living and awareness of mental health. The Baton Rouge landmass will host ‘Wellness on the Bluff’, a week of health-focused events that will transform the mind and physical self, that is scheduled to take place February 27-29, 2024.

On Tuesday, February 27, the campus will celebrate SUccess and Wellness Day. Throughout the day, students and employees can experience holistic sessions, including yoga, food demonstrations, meditation, and more, that will assist in the development of beneficial wellness habits. The on-campus Counseling Center is set to host an open house to encourage students to explore the office’s services and meet their professional staff.

Because mental health is a pressing topic on college campuses, Baton Rouge Advancing Health Literacy, the City of Baton Rouge, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services- Office of Minority Health are hosting “Yes, I’m In My Feelings”. Mental health counselor, Eugene Bentley, and community engagement advisor, Tonja Myles, will engage in an intimate conversation with students surrounding emotional health and personal growth. To end the week, the Southern University Law Center will celebrate the closing of February with “Leap Into Wellness”. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience a light workout along with visiting community vendors, including financial institutions, food demonstrations, mental health counselors, and more.

Southern University recognizes the importance of cultivating healthy and transformational habits. Therefore, by adopting these initiatives, the campus aims to empower students and employees with resources and strategies for maintaining a balanced and thriving lifestyle. While these events are geared toward the campus community, Southern University Law Center, along with community partners will host a city-wide fair titled ‘Health and Harmony Wellness Fair’ scheduled for Saturday, April 13.
