The Southern University Law Center’s (SULC) Louis A. Berry Institute for Civil Rights and Justice and Measures for Justice is set to host a symposium focused on the realm of civil rights within the community. The symposium themed "From Chaos to Community: Road mapping Where We Go From Here”, took place Friday, April 5 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at The Valdry Center for Philanthropy at Southern University and A&M College.
"We are providing a space for critical conversations and collective action," said Ada Goodly Lampkin, director of the Louis A. Berry Institute for Civil Rights & Justice at SULC. "In the face of adversity, we must come together, listen to diverse perspectives, and strategize how we can build stronger, more inclusive communities. We invite everyone to join us in this important dialogue."
The event aims to explore critical issues facing our communities and to chart a path forward. It serves as a platform for strategic planning, workshops, and insightful discussions on various topics, including the use of data in legal offices, the impact of redistricting on voters’ rights, movement lawyering, and more.
This symposium featured prominent speakers including Judge Clark, Senator Royce Duplessis, and many others. In addition, Measures of Justice will screen their recent documentary, “Let’s Be Clear”, which features 12 people who have experienced the criminal justice system in multiple ways.
