Durado Brooks Jr. has filed a lawsuit against JFP Project One LLC, also known as Fager Films, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The case ID is 2:24-cv-00942-JCZ-DPC and it was filed on April 15, 2024. The suit alleges violations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other related laws.
Brooks, represented by his attorney, claims that Fager Films failed to provide a safe working environment during the production of a documentary about a Louisiana high school football team. He was offered an annual salary of $75,000 with a 5% share of the project's sale price which would increase to $125,000 once sold. However, he alleges witnessing racial discrimination and harassment during filming.
The plaintiff is seeking damages for hostile work environment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 42 U.S.C. § 1981. He alleges that he observed racial discrimination from Jackson Fager and another Caucasian male cameraman who were mimicking and ridiculing African American interviewees.
