In the United States District Court, Mubashir Maqbool has filed a lawsuit against The Louisiana Supreme Court Committee on Bar Admission. The case, numbered 24-00976, was filed on April 18, 2024. Maqbool alleges discriminatory and biased practices in the grading of his bar examination answers.

Maqbool, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, sat for the Louisiana Bar exam twice - in October 2020 and February 2021. On both occasions, he failed to reach the required score of 500 points by narrow margins. He alleges that upon reviewing his answers, he found a discriminatory remark from an examiner and disparities in scoring between different examiners.

Furthermore, Maqbool raises questions about the committee's decision to grant bar licenses to hundreds of applicants in 2020 without them having to pass Part I of the Louisiana Bar Exam. He believes this action violates several U.S laws and the U.S Constitution's Commerce Clause. He is seeking equal treatment as those who were exempted from the exam and those who were awarded extra points when they fell short of passing scores.
