In the case of Tedero Jones versus Glenda Lewis, a dispute over an eviction from a property located outside of the Baton Rouge City Court's jurisdiction has led to an appeal. The case, filed in the State of Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit under docket number 2023 CA 0860, was initially decided on April 26, 2024.
The plaintiff, Tedero Jones, filed a Rule to Evict in Baton Rouge City Court on April 19, 2023. He sought to evict the defendant, Glenda Lewis, from a house located at 5850 Lavey Lane in Baker, Louisiana. The court determined that Ms. Lewis had not paid her monthly rent and did not have permission from the owner to occupy the house. On June 12, 2023, despite objections from Ms. Lewis regarding venue and jurisdiction issues due to the property being located outside Baton Rouge city limits, the Baton Rouge City Court signed a Judgment of Eviction And Writ of Possession.
Jones is seeking for judgment and damages against Lewis for non-payment of rent and illegal occupation of his property. Despite having signed a lease agreement with Georgia Lockhart (Jones' mandatary) for another property at 5846 Lavey Lane at $1,000 per month rent, Lewis was found occupying the house at 5850 Lavey Lane without owner's consent.
