The United States of America has filed a lawsuit against Tatayanna M. Woods in the Eastern District of Louisiana, with the court case ID 2:24-cv-01014-SSV-JVM, on April 22, 2024. The suit alleges that Woods fraudulently obtained and misused funds from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The CARES Act was enacted in March 2020 to provide financial assistance to Americans affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Woods is accused of receiving a PPP loan of $20,832 based on false records and statements submitted to Capital Plus Financial LLC.
Additionally, she allegedly misrepresented her annual income and payroll costs which were used to calculate her eligible loan amount. It is also claimed that Woods knowingly used these funds for unauthorized purposes and misrepresented her use of the funds on the forgiveness application for the PPP loans.
The plaintiff, represented by an Assistant United States Attorney, seeks judgment against Woods for unjust enrichment and other damages caused by her actions. The Small Business Administration (SBA) had forgiven Woods's PPP loan of $20,832 along with accrued interest of $82.75 based on false representations. Furthermore, the SBA paid $2,500 in processing fees to Capital One Financial LLC for the PPP loan disbursed to Woods.
