SULC professor Deleso Alford receives Special Appreciation Award from National Bar Association

Deleso Alford, Rachel Emanuel Endowed Professor of Law, received a Special Appreciation Award at the National Bar Association’s 35th Annual Wiley Branton Symposium for her service on the Executive Planning Steering Committee.

During the symposium, Professor Alford convened and moderated a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) session titled “Genetic Justice: Henrietta Lacks Litigation Case Study,” alongside notable panelists Ben Crump, Kim Parker, and Yusuf N. Henriques. The session addressed “Genetic Justice” through the historic Henrietta Lacks family litigation, highlighting ways to combat medical racism both in courts and public discourse.

Alford also participated in the CLE session, “Perfecting Civil and Human Rights Law: The Role and Re-Envisioning of Legal Experts,” joining scholars D. Wendy Greene, Victor Jones, and Rachel Lopez. This panel examined the evolving role of legal experts in advancing justice and equity, expanding the reach of legal expertise in both national and international civil rights contexts.
