Southern University Law Center's Office of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives is partnering with River Parishes Community College to host an expungement event for St. John Parish residents on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the River Parishes Community College Reserve Campus, located at 181 Regala Park Rd, Reserve, LA 70084.

The Expungement Initiative is designed to address barriers to employment and create pathways for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives. Clearing eligible criminal records can significantly improve opportunities for employment, housing, education, and financial security, allowing residents to build more sustainable futures for themselves and their families.

This event is made possible in part by the generous support of the Louisiana Legislature and Air Products, whose commitment to community development and workforce readiness has been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life.

During the session, residents will have the opportunity to have their criminal records reviewed to determine their eligibility for expungements.

“Increasing workforce participation is essential to building stronger communities,” said Marla Dickerson, vice chancellor of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives at SULC. “By offering free expungement services, we’re empowering residents with a chance to create a more stable and sustainable future for themselves and their families.”

A crucial aspect of this initiative is ensuring that participants leave with more than just a cleared record. Representatives from RPCC's Adult Education and Workforce Training divisions will be on hand during the event, along with currently hiring business and industry partners. This collaborative approach offers attendees valuable opportunities to make connections and take the next step on their education and career journey.

"The Expungement Initiative represents a vital step toward breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for the residents of St. John Parish," said Quintin Taylor, Chancellor of River Parishes Community College. "At RPCC, we are committed to empowering individuals through education, workforce training, and partnerships like this one with Southern University Law Center. Together, we can help individuals rebuild their lives and strengthen our communities. We look forward to continuing to find opportunities like this one to help bridge the gap between poverty and prosperity in the River Region."

Participants are required to bring their valid driver’s license, a background check from Louisiana State Police, a certified copy of minutes, and a certified bill of information.

This initiative is part of Southern University Law Center's ongoing commitment to serve the community and provide access to essential legal resources. To be seen by a staff attorney, guests must have all required documents present at the time of the event. Eligibility space is limited.
