Cantium, LLC has taken legal action against Walker Marine Geophysical Company, LLC and GTC, Inc., filing a complaint in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 20, 2025. The lawsuit centers around allegations of breach of contract and detrimental reliance involving marine seismic survey services that were allegedly not performed to agreed standards.

According to the complaint filed by Cantium, LLC, a Delaware-based oil and gas company with operations in Louisiana, Walker Marine Geophysical Company entered into a Master Services Agreement (MSA) with Cantium on March 10, 2023. This agreement required Walker Marine to provide marine seismic surveying services using specialized equipment. However, Cantium claims that Walker Marine failed to deliver on its promises regarding the quality and readiness of its equipment and personnel. The complaint details that Walker Marine assured Cantium of having reliable equipment and skilled personnel but allegedly fell short during execution. For instance, Cantium asserts that due to equipment failures and inadequate staffing by Walker Marine, the seismic survey was halted prematurely in June 2024 and faced significant delays until October 2024.

The lawsuit also involves GTC, Inc., which rented essential seismic survey equipment to Walker Marine under an agreement dated July 19, 2023. An addendum signed on August 3, 2023, involved all three parties—Cantium as the client—specifying rental terms for sea bottom nodes critical for the survey's success. Despite these arrangements, Cantium alleges that it paid over $4 million for services and equipment that did not meet contractual obligations while Walker Marine reportedly failed to pay GTC for rented equipment.

Cantium seeks multiple forms of relief from the court: damages exceeding $4 million already paid to Walker Marine for services deemed unsatisfactory; declaratory judgment affirming they are not liable for unpaid invoices between Walker Marine and GTC; compensation for delays and inefficiencies caused by Walker Marine’s alleged breaches; and any additional costs or attorney fees incurred due to this dispute.

Representing Cantium in this case are attorneys Robert R. Johnston, Constance C. Waguespack, and Ross A. Ledet from Pusateri Johnston Guillot & Greenbaum LLC based in New Orleans. The case is identified as Case No. 2:25-cv-00552.
