Central City physician suing clinic for $11K in allegedly unpaid wages

NEW ORLEANS – A doctor who worked part-time at a New Orleans family health clinic in Central City is suing the clinic claiming that he is owed over $11,000 in unpaid wages.

Richard E. Sabatier, M.D. filed suit against The Contemporary Family Health Centers, Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on May 8, 2015.

The plaintiff claims that on Feb. 4, he answered a Craigslist ad in search of a doctor to cover shifts at CFHC Central City clinic. He says that the ad stipulated that the physician would work at the rate of $100 an hour for 28 hours a week. Sabatier submitted his details and ultimately was awarded the job, beginning employment on Feb. 9. He claims that shortly after beginning work, his hours were lowered to only 19 a week due to a lack of patients.

Sabatier claims that he worked 142.8 hours in the first 53 days following his hiring, thus earning $14,280. The plaintiff claims that he was paid an installment of $2,500 but is still owed $11,780 for services rendered. The plaintiff claims to have made amicable demand through counsel on April 10 for payment of his wages, to which the clinic allegedly responded by saying that they had “every intention of paying Dr. Sabatier, he is a great Doctor and an asset to our clinic.”

The plaintiff seeks payment for lost wages in the amount of $11,780, legal interest, attorneys fees, and penalty wages in the maximum sum of $45,900.

The plaintiff is represented by Barbara J. Ziv and Esther L. Greenbaum of New Orleans-based Barbara J. Ziv, L.L.C.
