A seaman believes he caught a medicine-resistant staph infection while working on a heavy lift derrick barge in navigation.
Alleging violations of the Jones Act and general maritime law, James Warren filed suit against Tetra Applied Technologies on March 8, in the New Orleans federal court of the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Warren claims the derrick barge D/B-1 derrick was unseaworthy. His suit against the barge's owner and operator seeks more than $2 million in damages.
He claims he contracted methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from his bunk and room sometime in July 2007.

U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk is assigned to the case.
