A Texas man is suing the companies he says are to blame for an explosion that left him permanently injured.
David Corey filed suit against Deepwater Specialist Inc., Berry Contracting and ENI US Operating Company Inc. Aug. 27 in Orleans Parish District Court.
Corey says he was employed by a hydrostatics company as a technician in October 2009. Corey says he was working on a platform when an explosion threw him eight feet to the platform deck, causing him to be seriously hurt.
Corey says the explosion was caused by employees of Deepwater Specialists. The platform was owned by ENI and Berry Contracting, according to the complaint.
Corey argues the defendants were careless, reckless and negligent when they failed to properly inspect and maintain the platform and when they failed to prevent the incident.
Corey claims the explosion left him with serious, permanent and disabling injuries. He is asking to be awarded damages for physical and mental pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.
Attorney Lionel H. Sutton III of Metairie is representing Corey.
