Defense receives response in hostel slip and fall case

Court documents indicate that the defense in hostel slip and fall suit have received a response to interrogatories in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

Jefferson Parish resident Oscar Salazar is suing the India House Backpacker's Hostel, Certain Underwriters at Lloyds of London and Tandoori Inc., after he fell on a wet spot in the India House lobby in June 2009.

New Orleans attorneys Bruce Parkerson and Matthew Moeller are representing the defendants.

Defense counsel submitted a set of interrogatories on April 5, then filed a motion to compel response after the plaintiff allegedly failed to respond to multiple requests.

Judge Herbert Cade is overseeing the case. The motion hearing was re-set since the matter was moot.

New Orleans attorney Pius Obioha filed the original petition for damages on January 25, 2010. It claims that India House is liable for not having any hand rails on its stairs that would have prevented the fall and that "personnel failed to place a 'wet floor' sign around the pool of water which" caused the fall.

The plaintiff alleges that he slammed his head on the hard floor and thus suffered significant injuries.
