Baptist Church sued over visitor's slip and fall

Texas resident Lori Sanders is suing the Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in Orleans Parish Civil District Court after she allegedly slipped and fell on rain water that had accumulated inside the building.

New Orleans attorney Amy Edmond of the firm Morris Bart PLC filed the petition for damages on Dec. 9. The suit claims that Sanders "sustained bodily injuries, including but not limited to her head, neck, back and leg."

The accident allegedly occurred on Dec. 12, 2009. The suit claims that the church is liabile for "failing to properly maintain and/or repair the premises," failure to "correct the accumulated rain water inside the entrance" and "failure to provide plaintiff with a premises free of defects and in good condition."

The suit also names Church Mutual Insurance Company as a defendant.

The suit claims both defendants are liable for "medical care, including expenses for travel to the physicians' office, loss of enjoyment of life, and past and future lost earnings and impaired earning capacity."

This suit has been assigned to Orleans Parish Judge Rosemary Ledet.
