Louisiana Citizens Insurance claims faulty wiring job caused house fire

Paysse Jr.

The Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance (LCPI) claims that a heating company is liable for a house fire that damaged a New Orleans home, according to a suit filed in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

LCPI is suing Blum Thermal Services, Kenneth Blum and the Lafayette Insurance Company on behalf of LCPI policy holder Cara Ogg. New Orleans attorneys Rene Paysse Jr. and Thomas Anzelmo Jr. filed the petition for damages Jan. 10.

The suit claims that a March 2010 fire in Ogg's home was caused when Blum negligently "pulled wiring from a junction box located in a hall closet" in Ogg's home. LCPI paid out a claim filed by Ogg, and is now seeking to remedy the expenses.

LCPI claims that Blum and his insurer, Lafayette, "are jointly and severally liable to the plaintiffs" for all the damages caused by the fire.

This case has been assigned to Judge Herbert Cade.
