Trial set for man suing Hampton Inn over bathtub slip

A two-day jury trial is set to begin Feb. 15 involving a man suing the Hampton Inn Metairie after he allegedly slipped and fell in his room's bathtub.

Metairie attorney Christopher Schwartz filed the petition for damages in Orleans Parish on behalf of resident Kenneth Landix in March 2009. The suit claims Landix "slipped on the slippery surface of the bathtub which was unreasonably dangerous."

The suit also names Hotel Investors LLC, the owner of the Hampton Inn, in the suit. Metairie lawyer Michael Grennan is serving as defense counsel.

The lawsuit claims that Hampton owes Landix for medical bills, past and future earnings and several other damages as a result of him "striking his head on the back of the bathtub, injuring ... his head, neck, right shoulder, right arm and lower back."

The defense has denied all allegations that the bathtub posed an "unreasonable risk of harm."

Orleans Parish Judge Piper Griffin is presiding.
