Harrah's suing man to recover $4,500 loan

Chopin

Harrah's Casino has filed a lawsuit in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against a man it says owes the company $4,500 from 2009.

Jazz Casino Co., which owns Harrahs, filed the petition for damages June 8 against St. Tammany resident Dexter Wood.

Wood allegedly was issued casino "markers" totaling $4,500 in January 2009, but Jazz Casino attempted to take out the money from Wood's bank account, the markers were "dishonored and were returned unpaid."

Jazz Casino has issued a written demand for the money owed but has yet to receive a response, the suit claims.

Metairie attorney Justin Chopin filed the suit on behalf of Jazz Casino.

Orleans Parish Judge Kern Reese has been assigned this case.
