A Louisiana Technical College is being sued for national origin discrimination after it hired a native born American over a native South American.

William MG Joseph filed suit against Delgado Community College, Louisiana Technical College through the State of Louisiana on Nov. 14 in federal court in New Orleans.

In January 2008, Joseph, a native of Guyana, South America, applied for a part time position as an adjunct machinist instructor at Delgado Community College to begin in August 2008. The position required 20 hours per week and paid $35 per hour. However, the adjunct position was given to a black male, a native born American. Joseph states he was better qualified for the position.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for lost wages, emotional distress, costs and attorney's fees.

Joseph is represented by Metairie attorney J. Courtney Wilson. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown is assigned to the case.

Case No. 2:11-cv-02833
