NEW ORLEANS – An Avondale man is suing a shipping company under the Jones Act alleging he received injuries in the line of work.
Jesse Love filed suit on Jan. 25 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Brittania-U Nigeria, Ltd. Love claims he was injured while employed by the defendant as an instrumentation technician when he was ordered to work on an oil production platform located off the coast of Nigeria.
The plaintiff alleges he was boarding the platform from a crew boat when his leg was caught between a ladder on the platform and the boat. Love alleges he received serious and permanent injuries from the incident. Brittania-U is accused of not providing any medical treatment for the plaintiff necessitated by the accident.
An unspecified amount in damages is being sought for pain and suffering, loss of wages, diminution of wage earning capacity, permanent physical impairment and disability, loss of fringe benefits, medical expenses and punitive damages.
Love is being represented by New Orleans-based attorneys Lawrence A. Arcell and Michael E. Katz.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Herbert A. Cade.
