NEW ORLEANS - An Oregon resident has filed a lawsuit against his employer for negligence after his arm was crushed in lifting lines.
R. Todd Steadman filed suit against Ranger Offshore on Jan. 26 in federal court in New Orleans.
The alleged incident occurred on July 19, 2011 when Steadman's left arm became entrapped in lifting lines when a co-worker prematurely released a load. Steadman states he sustained crushing, severe and disabling injuries to his arm.
The defendant is accused of general maritime negligence and unseaworthiness in the operation of the vessel and its operations. The defendant is also accused of negligence in the supervision of, planning and direction of the vessel's crew.
The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for loss of wages and earning capacity, medical expenses, maintenance, cure, attorney's fees, interest, and court costs.
Steadman is represented by Bobby J. Delise and Alton J. Hall Jr. of Delise & Hall in New Orleans. A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman is assigned to the case.
