NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans man is suing a local pharmacy claiming they provided him with the wrong prescription.
Cedric D. Monroe filed suit on Feb. 24 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Walgreen Louisiana and pharmacist Chandra Jordan Green.
In the original complaint, Monroe claims he presented a prescription to the Walgreen's pharmacy located at 11297 Lake Forest Blvd. in New Orleans and was given a medicine other than the one requested by his doctor.
The plaintiff alleges he had a prescription for another drug but was given a prednisone prescription meant for "Cedrick Morton."
Monroe asserts he suffered a weight gain of 60 pounds due to taking the prednisone. The plaintiff claims he received injuries from taking wrong medication including increased blood pressure, increased hyperlipidemia, increased metabolic disease, increased coronary heart disease, increased osteoarthritis, increased glucose intolerance, anxiety, mental distress and possible psychological problems.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the plaintiff's physical and mental conditions, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of future wages, loss of wage earning capacity, reduced life expectancy and the prospect of premature death.
Monroe is being represented by New Orleans-based attorney John D. Rawls.
Case number 2012-01773 has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
