West Jefferson Medical Center sued by woman who claims nurse let her fall out of bed

Evans

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local hospital for injuries she claims she received due to the actions of one of its employees.

Sharon Johnson filed suit on March 26 against West Jefferson Medical Center in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Johnson claims she was a patient at the hospital when an unidentified nurse came to change the sheets in her bed while she was in it and proceeded to lower the bed rail upon which point she fell out of the bed and onto the floor.

The plaintiff alleges she sustained permanent damage when she broke her wrist in the fall. West Jefferson Medical Center is asserted to be the correct defendant as the unidentified nurse was functioning within the scope of her employment when the alleged incident occurred.

The defendant is accused of failing to take into account the safety of others, failing to use proper procedures, failing to properly supervise employees, failing to properly secure bed rail, failing to safely move patient and failing to take measures to insure safety of patient.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, disability, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of use or function of body parts, bodily disability, impairment of psychological functioning, inability to engage in recreation, destruction of earning capacity and destruction of earning capacity.

Johnson is being represented by Robert B. Evans of New Orleans-based Burgos and Evans, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen J. Windhorst.
