Metairie company sues AOL in attempt to gain access to company emails

Clements

NEW ORLEANS - A Metairie company has filed a lawsuit against AOL in an effort to obtain access to the company's email account and the company's past email address.

Rault Resources Inc. filed suit against AOL Inc. on April 10 in federal court in New Orleans.

The email account was established around 2004 and was used by Rault's asset manager, who later resigned from her position in March 2012.

At the time of her resignation, the former asset manager contacted AOL to inform that she was no longer the contact person for Rault's account and should be removed from the account in all capacities.

Rault states that it has repeatedly contacted AOL to gain access to the account in order to order to resume regular business communications. According to the lawsuit, AOL has refused to transition the email address to a new contact at Rault and thus, Rault is unable to access its account.

Rault states that the inability to access its account has caused it missed potential business opportunities.

The company is asking the court to declare that Rault Resources is the proper owner of the AOL email account and for an injunction to compel AOL to reinstate the email account.

Rault Resources is represented by Miles P. Clements and Heather McArthur of Frilot L.L.C. in New Orleans.

U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon is assigned to the case.
