School system sued by woman who tripped over threshold

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local school system for injuries she claims occurred on one of their properties.

Jan DiMarco filed suit against the Jefferson Parish School Board on May 21 in the 24th Judicial District Court. DiMarco claims she was walking through the entrance at Myrtle C. Thibodeaux Elementary School at 537 Avenue D in Westwego when she fell over a "multi-leveled" threshold. The plaintiff alleges she sustained serious personal injuries and damages in the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the property in a safe condition, allowing an unsafe and dangerous condition to exist, failing to inspect or warn of a dangerous condition, failing to make necessary repairs and allowing a continuous and inherently dangerous condition to exist.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages.

DiMarco is being represented by Irvy E. Cosse, Jr. of New Orleans-based Cosse & Cosse.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen S. Kovach.

Case number 715042.
