Contractor sued after incomplete work allegedly allows storm damage in home

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a St. Landry Parish contractor for allegedly abandoning a home repair job.

Cynthia Lyons filed suit on June 4 against Sid's Woodwork, LLC and Sidney Fremin, Jr. in the 24th Judicial District Court. Lyons claims she contracted Sid's Woodwork to perform work on her home located at 215 Pike St. in Gretna.

The plaintiff claims she paid the defendants $5,775 to do various outdoor improvements to the property. In addition, Lyons alleges she paid the defendants $9,900 to replace the home's roof and various parts of the siding. The plaintiff asserts that after the defendant removed the home's roof the contractor did not provide covering to protect the interior of the home. Later, a severe storm caused extensive damage to the home.

The defendants are accused of abandoning the project and not repairing the damage from the storm nor replacing the roof they dismantled.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought to replace the flooring, walls, crown molding, ceiling, furnishings, mattresses, furniture, for mold and mildew damage, central air conditioning damage, materials and labors charges for other contractors to repair the damage, materials and labor for other contractor to remove the damaged materials, testing for mold, replacement of central air conditioning, materials to fix incomplete work in the backyard and mental anguish.

Lyons is being represented by Kelly Tanner Blackwell of Gretna-based Vezina and Gattuso, LLC.

The case has been assigned to June Berry Darrensburg.

Case number 715561.
