Women who fell at daughter's graduation ceremony sues

UNO Lakefront Arena

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman has filed suit against a local university for injuries she claims she received on their premises.

Regina Matthews filed suit against Louisiana State University, the University of New Orleans, Warren Eastern Senior High School Foundation and their insurers in the Orleans Parish Central DIstrict Court on May 16. Matthews claims she was attending her daughter's graduation ceremony for Warren Eastern Senior High School at the Lakefront Arena on UNO's campus when she allegedly fell as a result of an uneven seam in a walkway's masonry. The plaintiff alleges the incident resulted in injuries.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the walkway, failing to correct an unsafe condition, failing to protect patrons, failing to use reasonable care, failing to sufficiently inspect the walkway, failing to warn the plaintiff of the danger and failing to protect patrons from the danger.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, medical expenses and economic earning potential.

Matthews is represented by Michael W. Collins of Metairie-based the Law Offices of Craig S. Sossaman a Professional Law Corporation.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates, IV.

Case number 2012-04896.
