Clearview Mall candy store cited by Sheriff for over $40k in back taxes

GRETNA – A Metairie-based candy store has been served by the local sheriff's office for alleged non-payment of taxes.

Newell Norman, Sheriff and Ex-Officio Tax Collector for the Parish of Jefferson filed suit against Gray's Confections, LLC and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in the 24th Judicial District Court against on July 13. The Sheriff's Office claims Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory owes $46,517.49 in back taxes. The plaintiff claims there is no property available to seize to satisfy the taxes owed.

The defendant is accused of not paying necessary parish taxes.

The plaintiff is represented by Metaire-based attorney Joseph J. Lepow.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Patrick J. McCabe.

Case no. 717-004.
