Widow sues deceased husband's employers over alleged silicosis death

GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing 11 of her deceased husband's former employers.

Abigail Harden Alix filed suit against A.J. Toups, Kaiser Aluminum of Chalmette, Colonial Sugar, Diamond Sugar, Gulf Oil of Norco, Texaco Oil, Chevron Oil, Tennaco Oil, Murphy Oil, National Gypsum, Ebasco Co. and Shell Oil in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 26. Alix claims her husband's former employers are responsible for his contraction and death from silicosis. The plaintiff alleges her husband contracted silicosis due to contaminants present on the work sites of the various defendants.

The defendant is accused of allowing negligent conditions in the workplace.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, lost ages, loss of love and affection, wrongful death, mental pain and suffering, loss of income, medical expenses and burial expenses.

Alix is representing herself in the case.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
