Contractor sued by Louisiana Farm Bureau over house fire

GRETNA – An insurance company is suing a local contractor claiming it is responsible for a house fire that occurred at the residence of the company's policy holders.

Louisiana Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and Dolores Hamilton filed suit against C.R. Trahan Contractors in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 7. Louisiana Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and Hamilton claim that defective repairs done to Hamilton's home by C.R. Trahan Contractors resulted in a house fire that destroyed the entire home. The plaintiffs allege that employees of the defendants negligently made repairs that resulted in the fire starting.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

Damages in the amount of $136,155.02 are sought for repair or replacement for the roof of the home.

The plaintiffs are represented by New Orleans-based attorney Nancy Cromartie.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
