United Cabs sued by injured passenger

Jerald P. Block

NEW ORLEANS - A New Orleans woman is suing a local cab company alleging she was injured when the cab she was riding in backed into another car.

Renee Levine Brown filed a lawsuit against United Cabs, Inc., Gary F. Kernan, American Service Insurance Company, Inc. and Allstate Insurance Company in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Aug. 3.

Brown claims she was a passenger in a cab owned and operated by United Cabs and Gary Kernan. The plaintiff alleges she suffered serious and permanent, disabling injuries as a result of Kernan rapidly backing the cab into another car.

Michael L. Brown, Renee Brown's husband, also is claiming entitlement to recovery from defendants on grounds of loss of consortium.

The defendant is accused of failure to maintain control over his cab, inattention and failure to avoid a collision.

An unspecified amount is sought for all damages including, but not exclusively, medical costs, pain and suffering, loss of wages and mental anguish.

The plaintiffs are represented by Jerald P. Block of Thibodaux, Louisiana-based law firm Block Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.

Case no.2012-07604.
