GRETNA – A Texas woman is suing a number of oil companies and oil rigging companies for the alleged wrongful death of her father.
Lakiesha Lockley, individually and on behalf of the deceased Earl Williams, II, filed suit against Exxon Mobil Corporation, Exxon Mobil Corporation, Chevron USA,, Inc., Union Oil Company, BP Corporation North America, Inc., BP Products North America, Inc., Conoco Phillips Company, Marathon Oil Company, Placid Oil Company, Oxy USA, Inc. OFS Inc. and Intracoastal Tubular Services, Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 21. Lockley claims that her father worked for multiple employers, including Avondale Shipyards, for numerous times throughout the 1970s and '80s, that exposed him to radioactive by-products from oil drilling. The plaintiff alleges that her father's exposure to the radioactive materials was due to defendants' negligence.
The defendant is accused of knowing of the dangerous materials, failing to properly supervise pipe cleaning contractor, failing to properly warn the of the dangerous materials, failing to properly test its pipe for the dangerous material, failing to properly dispose of the dangerous material, failing to properly dispose of the hazardous waste, failing to identify and mark pipe containing hazardous material, failing to mark and prevent access to a hazardous work area and acting in a careless and negligent manner without due regard for the safety of the deceased.
An unspecified amount in damages are sought for wrongful death and sufficient enough to punish, prevent and deter defendants from undertaking similar conduct in the future.
