Rouse's sued in slip and fall

GRETNA – A local grocery store is being sued by a woman who claims she was injured in a fall on its premises.

Dierdre Ruiz filed suit against Rouse's Enterprises, LLC and Rouse's Supermarket in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 4. Ruiz claims she was at a Rouse's location when she was injured in a fall. The plaintiff alleges that her fall was caused by an unreasonably dangerous condition at the store and that she has sustained significant bodily injuries.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonably safe premises for customers, failing to take necessary measures to protect the safety of customers, failing to properly maintain its premises, failing to warn customers of dangerous conditions and failing to take steps to avoid the accident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of income, loss of earning capacity and permanent disability.

Ruiz is represented by J. Bart Kelly of New Orleans-based Alvendia, Kelly & Demarest.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan.
