NEW ORLEANS - A Pakistani cashier has filed a discrimination lawsuit against his former employer claiming he was terminated from his job due to his national origin.
Nasim Tariq filed suit against Central Parking Systems Inc. d/b/a Platinum Parking on Oct. 23 in federal court in New Orleans.
Tariq claims he was hired as a cashier by the defendant in October 2011 and was terminated on May 21, 2012. He worked at the Platinum Parking location on Poydras Street. Tariq states that he was subjected to remarks based on his national origin and that one of his managers did not correct the offending co-employees.
According to the lawsuit, another manager remarked that he did not like “stupid foreigners.”
The plaintiff is seeking damages for back pay, front pay, emotional distress, punitive damages, attorney fees, and court costs.
Tariq is represented by Metairie attorney J. Courtney Wilson. A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier is assigned to the case.
