NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish woman is suing Wal-Mart for alleged damages that occurred as a result of a fall on the premises of its Tchoupitoulas Street store.
Tamekia Hughes filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Wal-Mart Louisiana, LLC and their insurer in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Sept. 5. The plaintiff claims that while leaving the check-out line to go get some juice she slipped and fell due to a water-like substance on the floor.
Hughes claims that there were no warnings posted alerting customers that this substance was on the floor. This fall resulted in injury to her back, right wrist and hand and several bruises and contusions, the suit claims.
The defendant is accused of failure to maintain its premises in a safe condition, failure to warn customers of unsafe conditions and permitting a hazardous condition to exist after they should have known of the unsafe condition.
An unspecified amount is sought for medical expenses, lost wages and mental anguish.
