In a dramatic legal battle, a Louisiana resident has taken on a major automotive giant over allegations of defective vehicle manufacturing. Adam Angona filed a complaint against General Motors, LLC in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana on April 2, 2025. The lawsuit accuses General Motors of failing to uphold their warranty obligations and selling a vehicle with significant defects.
The case centers around Angona's purchase of a new 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 from Gerry Lane Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 20, 2023. The plaintiff alleges that the vehicle, which cost over $100,000 including financing and additional fees, was plagued with defects from the outset. According to court documents, these issues included severe engine malfunctions and oil leaks that were discovered within the warranty period but remained unresolved despite multiple repair attempts by authorized dealers. "No reasonable buyer would have purchased the Vehicle had they known of the defects before sale," states Angona's complaint.
Angona's legal team argues that General Motors violated both state and federal laws by failing to repair or replace the defective vehicle as promised under their express warranties. Specifically, they cite breaches under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and Louisiana Redhibition Laws. The plaintiff is seeking rescission of the sales contract and demands compensation for all associated costs such as finance charges and insurance premiums. Furthermore, Angona requests damages exceeding $100,000 for economic losses incurred due to these persistent issues.
In his plea for relief, Angona seeks not only financial restitution but also an official rescission of his purchase agreement with General Motors. He claims that repeated failures to rectify the vehicle's defects have significantly impaired its use and value. The complaint also highlights how these unresolved problems have left him without his vehicle for approximately 125 days due to ongoing repair attempts.
