GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing the local school system for injuries she claims to have received in an accident with a school bus.

Mildred Vurns filed suit against Wayne D. Gaudin, Jefferson Parish School Board and Princeton Excess and Surplus Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 19. Vurns claims she was a passenger on a Jefferson Parish Transit bus that was traveling near the intersection of Westbank Expressway and Manhattan Boulevard in Marrero when it was struck twice by a school bus owned by the Jefferson Parish School Board. The plaintiff alleges she was injured in the accident and has suffered from post-traumatic headaches and back strain.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep the school bus under control, failing to apply the buses brake's properly and failing to keep a proper lookout.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering and attorney's fees.

Vurns is represented by Halima Narcisse Smith of the New Orleans-based Law Offices of Halima Narcisse Smith, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre.

Case no. 720-319.
