Entergy sued by customer's home insurer over fire damage

GRETNA – An Avondale man's home insurance provider is suing a regional energy company and an electrical parts manufacturer over damages resulting from a home fire.

Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (as a partial subrogee to the rights of John Reynolds) filed suit against Entergy Louisiana LLC and ABC Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 22.

Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation claims that on Oct. 30, 2011 a fire broke out at Reynold's residence located at 172 N. Betty lane in Avondale. The plaintiff alleges that the fire originated at a meter provided by ABC Corporation and installed by Entergy on the wall of Reynold's home, which was severely damaged in the blaze, the suit claims.

The defendants are accused of improperly installing the meter, engaging in ultra-hazardous activities, manufacturing and distributing a product it knew to be defective and failing to properly warn of dangers.

The suit claims the cost to repair the home is $135,010.

Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation is represented by Darren A. Patin of Metairie-based Hailey, McNamara, Hallm, Larmann & Papale, LLP

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen J. Windhorst.

Case no. 720-362.
