Mop water residue leads to lawsuit against janitorial and office cleaning service

NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish janitorial and office cleaning service is being sued by a patron who slipped and fell in the lobby of a building.

Dominic Varrecchio filed a lawsuit against Crescent Building Service, Inc., an unidentified employee, Corporate Realty, Inc., 601 South Peters Street Limited Partnership and Everest Insurance Company on Sept. 5 in the Orleans Parish Central District Court.

The plaintiff claims that while walking through the lobby of an office building located on Lafayette Street he slipped and fell on what he found to be residual mopping water. He sustained injuries to his back, neck and head, the suit claims.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly inspect and maintain the floor of the lobby area, failing to dry or limit the pooling of the mop water on the lobby floor and failure to safeguard patrons from these hazardous conditions.

An unspecified amount is sought for all damages including, but not exclusively, mental anguish, medical expenses, and lost wages.

The plaintiff is representing himself.

This case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.

Case no. 2012-08515.
