Zuppardo’s sued by man who claims to have slipped on oily substance

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing a local grocery store for injuries he allegedly received in a fall on an oily substance on the store’s floor.

Simon A. Shokr filed suit against Zuppardo’s Economical Supermarkets, Inc. and United Fire Group in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 3. Shokr claims that he was shopping at the Zuppardo’s located at 5010 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie when he slipped in an oily substance and fell to the store’s floor. The plaintiff alleges that due to the fall he hit his head on the floor.

The defendant is accused of failing to adequately warn the plaintiff of the danger, failing to timely and appropriately clean the floors, failing to warn the plaintiff of the danger, failing to adequately inspect the premises, failing to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition, failing to adequately oversee persons responsible for maintaining the condition of the floors and failing to meet the general standard of care.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, numerous physical ailments, sexual complications and medical care and treatment.

Shokr is represented by New Orleans-based attorney David J. Mitchell.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan.
