NEW ORLEANS – The matriarch of one of New Orleans most well known political families is suing a local contractor for allegedly performing substandard roofing work on her home that resulted in damages to its interior.
Sybil Morial, the wife of former New Orleans Mayor Dutch Morial and mother of former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, filed a lawsuit against BPI Home Builders, LLC in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Nov. 9.
Morial claims that after paying the defendants up to $66,990 for roof reconstruction and repair of her residence, they failed to repair the structural deficiencies subsequent to the work they’d performed. The suit lists lack of lateral bracing for second floor supporting beams, deficient protection against wind load and absence of ties above the roof ridges among other deficiencies. Morial alleges her Harrison Avenue residence was damaged due to the defects.
The defendant is accused of negligence and breach of contract.
An unspecified amount is sought for complete compensation for all financial and emotional damages incurred by plaintiff.
Morial is represented by Martha Y. Curtis of New Orleans-based Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, LLC.
This case has been assigned to Division D Judge Lloyd J. Medley.
