Bus passenger sues City of New Orleans and Jefferson Parish transit after emergency vehicle crashes into bus

GRETNA – A bus passenger is suing the bus operator and the driver and owner of a an emergency medical service vehicle that ran into it for injuries he allegedly received in the incident.

Tyrone Hyams filed suit against Parish of Jefferson through its Department of Transit Adminsitration, Geraldine Ebbs and the City of New Orleans in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 3. Hyams claims he was a passenger aboard a Jefferson Parish Transit bus while traveling on City Park and Canal Boulevards when it was struck by an emergency medical services vehicle driven by Ebbs.

The defendant is accused of failing to consider the safety of others, failing to use proper vigilance, reckless driving, careless operation, allowing an inexperienced and unskilled person to operate equipment and failing to properly train and hire employees.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, medical expenses and physical pain and suffering.

Hyams is represented by attorney Louis A. Gerdes of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre, Jr.
