GRETNA – A Metairie-based insurance company is suing a former candidate for state representative for alleged breach of contract.

Donnaway Insurance, Inc. filed suit against George L. Branigan in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 4. Donnaway Insurance claims it was contracted by Branigan in 2007 to provide him with leads and referrals for potential customers for which it would be paid a commission. The plaintiff alleges the defendant ceased commission payments and later admitted that he owed them $20,000. However, Donnaway Insurance asserts the figured owed is $35,000.

Branigan is known for having run against Tony Ligi for the District 79 Representative seat in 2007, but withdrawing from the race before a runoff election.

Damages in the amount of $35,000 are sought plus legal interest.

Donnaway Insurance is represented by Franklin H. Jones III of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner.

Case no. 721-666.
