GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing two doctors for medical malpractice after an infection alleged resulted in his pacemaker needing to be removed.
David Warren Reeks filed suit against Ali Reza M.D., Robert Frank M.D. and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 9.
Reeks claims that in June 2010 he passed out due to a seizure and was transported to West Jefferson Hospital in an ambulance. The plaintiff alleges that upon his arrival he was treated by Reza, who installed a pacemaker in him and that no antibiotics were given to him by Franks following the surgery. Reeks asserts that he was discharged from the hospital, but returned two weeks later due to a staph infection and given antibiotics. The plaintiff alleges that the pacemaker eventually had to be removed due to the infection and that Reza was later found by a medical review panel to be liable for the plaintiff's damages.
The defendant is accused of medical malpractice.
An unspecified amount of damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, need for surgery, mental anguish, loss of income and loss of enjoyment of life.
Reeks is represented by attorney J. Michael Daly of Metairie.
The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Jo Ellen Grant.
Case no. 722-754.
