NEW ORLEANS– A Mississippi resident is suing the owner of a fixed oil platform after an offshore accident.
Jason M. Bourgeois filed suit against W & T Offshore Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Jan. 4.
Bourgeois claims he was working for Wood Group LLC on W & T’s platform at the time of the alleged incident, Jan. 5, 2012. The platform unexpectedly shifted causing the plaintiff’s left foot to slide into a gap in a grating created when the shift occurred, the suit claims. It also alleges that the grating should have been secured to prevent sudden and unexpected movements of the platform decking.
The defendant is accused of negligence for having knowledge that the decking needed repairs, but refusing to perform them because doing so would require temporarily shutting down production.
An unspecified amount of damages is sought for loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, loss of employment benefits, mental and physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, disability, disfigurement and loss of life’s pleasures and enjoyment.
The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Lloyd J. Medley.
The plaintiff is represented by Alan A Zaunbrecher of the Law Offices of Zaunbrecher Treadaway.
