GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing the company and the man who installed the stairs in her home after she fell on them allegedly because there was no rail installed.

Dana Caruso, and husband Luke, filed suit against Stair Depot of Alabama and Raymond Ard in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 7.

Caruso claims she was going up the stairs in her home that were installed by Ard on behalf of Stair Depot of Alabama when she fell. The plaintiff alleges her incident was caused by the absence of a handrail that should have been installed with the stairs. Caruso asserts she injured her wrist and arm in the fall.

The defendant is accused of constructing a stairway without a railing, violating code regulations concerning the safe construction of stairways and failing to warn the plaintiff of dangers of using a stairway without a railing.

An unspecified amount of damages is sought physician's professional services, medications, pain and suffering, neurosis, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and stairway damage.

Caruso is represented by Kenner-based attorney S. Michael Cashio.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
