NEW ORLEANS – A Chalmette-based general contractor is accused of not following guidelines prescribed in the construction contract between themselves and the owner of a local grocery store.
Rajinder S. Tanwar and Sohana Grocery Store LLC filed a lawsuit against Berthlot Design Construction LLC in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Jan. 11.
Tanwar, owner and operator of Sohana, alleges that the defendants performed substandard construction work on his property resulting in major water damage throughout the building to its ceiling, interior walls, flooring, lighting, equipment and inventory.
The defendant is accused of negligence and breach of contract.
The plaintiff is seeking all damages equal to the total cost of repair or replacement of construction defects, repair and replacement of property inside the building, loss of rental income and fees incurred to investigate and repair the multitude of construction defects.
John D. Miranda of New Orleans-based Kinney, Ellinghausen, Richard & Deshazo will represent the plaintiff in courts.
This case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin, Chief Judge.
