GRETNA – A St. Tammany Parish man who was shocked while working as a subcontractor on a school construction project is suing the regional electric provider for his injuries.
John Maestri, individually and on behalf of his minor children, filed suit against Entergy Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 23.
Maestri claims he was working on a Jefferson Parish Public Schools project as a subcontractor and was atop a lift operated by a coworker when it came close to high voltage power lines owned by Entergy Corporation. The plaintiff alleges that an arc of electricity struck him and he received extensive burns to his body, chest, shoulders, arms and hands.
The defendant is accused of failing to adequately warn the plaintiff of the presence and dangers of electricity transported in high voltage electric lines, failing to properly confer with the general contractor at the job site to formulate a safety plan to protect individuals from electrocution injuries, failing to provide additional insulation or neutral shield materials on its high voltage lines when it should have known contractors would be working near the lines, failing to inspect the job site to determine danger inherent in working in proximity to high voltage lines and failing to raise and move power lines to a safe distance from the job site.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental pain, physical pain, loss of enjoyment of life, permanent disfigurement, medical expenses, wage loss and impairment of future earning.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
