Landlord sued for tenant's injuries after kitchen cabinets allegedly collapse

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing his landlord claiming he was injured when the cabinets in his kitchen fell on top of him as he was preparing a meal.

Jake Morgan filed suit against Hermitage Insurance Company and B-G&G Investors LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 30.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonably safe place, failing to take necessary precautions to protect safety, failing to properly maintain and inspect premises, failing to warn of the dangerous nature of the premises and failing to take steps to avoid the incident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, rental expenses, property damage, loss of use and depreciation of vehicle, medical expenses, permanent disability, loss of consortium, loss of enjoyment of life, penalties and attorney’s fees.

Morgan is represented by Edward J. Womac Jr. of New Orleans-based Edward J. Womac & Associates.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
