GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing a local law enforcement agency alleging she was falsely arrested.
Augustine Bullock filed suit against the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office through the Sheriff Newell Normand and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 1.
Bullock claims that on Feb. 3, 2012 she was falsely arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office after being stopped for speeding for going 30 miles-per-hour in a 25 mile-per-hour zone. The plaintiff alleges that at the time of the stop she had been off probation since 2009 and that she was held in the parish prison from Feb. 3-6, 2012 until her sister contacted Bullock's probation officer and she was released from jail. Bullock asserts she received painful and debilitating injuries in the incident.
The defendant is accused of false imprisonment and wrongful arrest.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, lost wages, emotional distress, embarrassment, attorney's fees, court costs, loss of pursuit of happiness and loss of enjoyment of life.
Bullock is represented by Kelly S. Love of the New Orleans-based Pius A. Obioha & Associates LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
Case no. 723-487.
